WALSH: How To Tell If Someone Doesn't Really Care About Preventing Mass Shootings

Source: Daily Wire | February 26, 2018 | Matt Walsh

We already know that the Broward County Sheriff’s Office was called dozens of times and warned about a man who “could be a school shooter in the making.” We know that they did nothing in response to these calls. We also know that at least one deputy, and possibly three others, hid outside the school while the shooter was slaughtering 17 kids. We know that Sheriff Scott Israel blatantly misrepresented the facts on national TV by attempting to deflect attention from his office and its failures.

…….

Odd, given all we know, that our national conversation seems still to revolve around the NRA. Whatever you think of that organization, it had absolutely nothing to do with the massacre in Parkland, Florida. The NRA didn’t get those calls. The NRA wasn’t cowering outside while children were sprayed with bullets. You can think that the NRA is a terrorist cell run by Satan himself, but you cannot even begin to connect them to this shooting without engaging in blatant lies and falsehoods. And if you are engaging in blatant lies and falsehoods on this issue, then I think it is safe to say that you don’t really care at all about preventing mass shootings. You care about using them to your political advantage.

It’s not always the case after a mass shooting that we can clearly identify the personal and institutional failures that led to it. This time, however, it’s plain as day. The Broward County Sheriff’s Office is guilty of the worst series of law enforcement blunders that we’ve seen in many years. Our entire conversation about what could have been done to stop the tragedy should be based around that office, the guy who runs it, and the people who work for him. They have given us a road map of what not to do, and shown us exactly what to do by doing, in every instance, the exact opposite. That is where our focus should be. The people trying to divert focus to the NRA are not serious about preventing these tragedies. They are hypocrites and charlatans, and serious adults who want to have a serious discussion should ignore them.
