Why Evan McMullin Says Donald Trump Is More Dangerous Than ISIS

As a former CIA operative, independent presidential candidate Evan McMullin believes Donald Trump is a major threat to America’s national security, even saying in a speech earlier this year that he poses “a larger threat to our national security than ISIS itself.”

McMullin took aim at the Republican presidential nominee on this week’s episode of the “Powerhouse Politics” podcast with ABC News Political Director Rick Klein and ABC News Congressional Correspondent Mary Bruce, saying that Trump’s dangerous rhetoric is hurting U.S. counterterrorism efforts.

“By undermining our ideals, he weakens us on a much larger scale than even a terrorist organization that might carry out these horrendous attacks,” said McMullin. “It’s on a strategic level that many Americans perhaps might not think about, but as a former CIA guy, this is sort of what I think about.”

McMullin explained: “With regard to terrorism — what he doesn’t realize is that we actually depend on Muslims to do counterterrorism, to wage war against terrorists.” And when Trump attacks an entire population by proposing a ban on Muslims, for example, he “decreases their willingness to work with us, with other Muslims, and that impedes our ability to destroy ISIS.”

As a NeverTrumper I adamantly disagree, we have been failing to destroy islamic terrorism long before trump came along and saying we can’t win without coddling to muslims feelings is exactly what the progressive liberal democrat socialists have been preaching and practicing all along, it is political correctness at its worst… I call BS on this one.

This guy is off to a very bad start if he wants to get my attention, I suspect we will learn more but right now like trump I see him as just another log on the kill conservatism fire, I ain’t falling for it.

Don’t think is Trump is more dangerous than ISIS, but I will say this: Every time Trump opens his big mouth, he emboldens our enemies and alienates our friends. In that sense, Trump as President, will be dangerous. I can see us now fighting multiple wars on multiple fronts with no help from our allies. We will lose. When that happens, say goodbye to America as we know it.

This guy likes Muslims a bit too much for my taste. My impression and gut feeling about this guy is that he is very much the establishment GOP type of guy. He reminds me of a Paul Ryan type without the hair. I’m not that impressed either.

Also his resume gave me pause.

I meant to add that aside from what I think of him I may consider voting for him only if Cruz is not on the ballot in WI just to take the vote away from Trump & Hillary. I can’t see any scenario where this guy ends up winning the election. Even if he did he can’t be any worse than the other two options. I wouldn’t send him money though or campaign for him. I’m wondering if this is Romney’s “mini-me”?

All of the alternatives to Trump and Clinton are flawed — some more so than others. Of course, there is no expectation that any of them will win, so really, their flaws don’t matter at this point. But I would vote for any of them in a heartbeat if only to say, after either Hillary or Trump becomes President and they destroy this country, that I didn’t vote for either of them. I will not accept blame for the destruction to come.
