World’s largest lab-grown steak makes sizzling debut

An Israeli company has made headlines for producing the world’s largest lab-grown steak.

“The breakthrough is the culmination of over one year’s efforts in our cellular biology and high-throughput tissue-engineering processes, as well as our precision bioprinting technology,” MeaTech 3D CEO Sharon Fima told The Guardian. “We believe we have placed ourselves at the forefront of the race to develop high-end, cell-based meat products.”

MeaTech 3D used bovine stem cells, or cow stem cells, to incorporate it into “bio-inks” in its 3D printer to create a nearly 4-oz steak, coming in at exactly 3.67 oz. The company hopes to eventually produce and sell these printed meats for the same cost as traditional meat.
