Canadians’ opinion of US at 35-year low

Canadians currently hold their lowest opinion of the United States in the last 35 years, according to a new survey. 

The new poll, conducted by the Environics Institute for Survey Research (EISR) and published Monday by The Globe and Mail, found that 53 percent of Canadians hold either a somewhat or very unfavorable view of the U.S.

Forty-four currently hold a favorable view of the U.S., a big drop from a 2012 version of the same poll, when 68 percent of Canadians had a positive view of America.

Eighteen percent of Canadians said they were altering plans to visit the U.S. due to politics.

The EISR cites the “unexpected election of Donald Trump” for the “dramatic impact” on Canadians’ views of the U.S.
