China on Sunday abolished presidential term limits from its constitution, paving the way for President Xi Jinping to remain in office for an unrestricted amount of time.

Xi was due to step down from his post in 2023.

The proposal, which was announced last month, has sparked concerns that the lack of limits could lead to an increase in authoritarian rule.
