GOP lawmaker: Senate should lead on Russia after House controversy

A House Republican believes the Senate is going to have to come up with the definitive report on Russian influence on the 2016 presidential election because the House’s work is too politicized.

Rep. Charlie Dent, R-Pa., said on CNN Wednesday that the controversy around House Intelligence Committee Chairman Devin Nunes and his decision to brief the press President Trump on new information in the investigation before briefing the committee is too political.

At this point, the Senate Intelligence Committee’s work is more non-partisan and less political and will need to be the place to watch, Dent said.

“The Senate is going to lead this discussion, this investigation, into the Russian meddling into the election,” Dent said. “I think that’s where we are. It’s unfortunate where we are in the House. It seems like there’s not going to be a House report … on the Russian meddling, so I think we should turn our eyes to the Senate and come to a resolution.”
