Rep. Ron DeSantis (R-Fla.) on Wednesday said before the shooting at a baseball practice field in a Washington, D.C., suburb, a man asked him whether Republicans or Democrats were practicing.
On Fox News, DeSantis said he left the baseball practice early, a “couple minutes before this all happened.”
“And as I was getting into the car with one of my colleagues … there was a guy that walked up to us that was asking whether there was Republicans or Democrats out there,” he said during the interview.
“And it was just a little odd and then he kind of walked toward the area where all this happened.”
DeSantis said the man who talked to him was not carrying anything at the time and said he told the police what had happened.
“It was just a little odd that he kind of really walked up to us to ask and then went ahead and, probably — it was probably like three minutes, five minutes after we pulled out of the parking lot,” he said.
