Nebraska governor nixes Tuesday fundraiser with Pence

Gov. Pete Ricketts’ political team has pulled the plug on a Tuesday fundraiser that was set to feature GOP vice presidential nominee Mike Pence, according to two Republican sources in Nebraska.

Ricketts “canceled the fundraiser,” said a Nebraska Republican source familiar with the decision. The source added it was “up to the campaign” whether to proceed with plans for a rally that was set to feature Pence in Nebraska around the same time as the fundraiser.

A source close to the Ricketts family said there had been discussions about two separate fundraisers featuring Pence — one for Donald Trump’s presidential campaign and one for the Nebraska state Republican Party — but that both were canceled “because of a lack of interest in the donor community in Nebraska for the Trump-Pence fundraiser.”

As a result, the Ricketts family source said, the Trump-Pence campaign appeared poised to cancel the rally.

Brian Baker, a political adviser to the Ricketts family, wouldn’t comment on the change in plans, but said that neither Ricketts nor his family was backing away from its support for Pence or Trump’s campaign.
