A new Trump ally has received a Georgia subpoena in the investigation of efforts to flip the 2020 election: Jody Hice.

The Fulton County DA has already issued subpoenas to others, including Sen. Lindsey Graham, Rudy Giuliani and John Eastman.

What’s up: The district attorney in Fulton County recently subpoenaed Rep. Jody Hice, a Georgia Republican congressman who was an ally in Donald Trump’s effort to overturn the 2020 election.

The subpoena underscores the rapidly escalating pace of District Attorney Fani Willis’ investigation, which has already issued subpoenas to other figures close to Trump, including Sen. Lindsey Graham, Rudy Giuliani and John Eastman.

Hice’s subpoena instructed him to appear Tuesday morning before the special grand jury. But in a filing Monday morning in Fulton County Superior Court, Hice moved to transfer the jurisdiction of his subpoena to federal court, contending that his role as a federal official permits him to adjudicate it in the U.S. District Court of Northern Georgia.

……..

Why Hice matters: Hice was among the most vocal allies in Trump’s effort to seize a second term. Witnesses have told the Jan. 6 select committee that he attended a Dec. 21, 2020, meeting at the White House with other members of the House Freedom Caucus to strategize challenges to the election results that Republicans could lodge when Congress convened on Jan. 6, 2021.

Hice also ran for secretary of state earlier this year, earning an endorsement from Trump, but lost in a primary against incumbent Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger.
