North Korea fired a ballistic missile on Tuesday, breaking more than two months of silence from the rogue regime.

The missile reportedly flew over the Japanese island of Hokkaido and may have landed in Japan’s exclusive economic zone, NHK World reported.

The U.S. detected a “probable missile launch” that occurred around 1:30 p.m. Washington time, or 3 a.m. in North Korea. “We are in the processing of assessing the situation and will provide additional details when available,” Pentagon spokesman Col. Rob Manning told reporters.

White House spokeswoman Sarah Sanders tweeted that President Trump was briefed on the launch “while missile was still in the air.”

“North Korea launched an unidentified ballistic missile eastward from the vicinity of Pyongsong, South Pyongan Province, at dawn today,” Yonhap News Agencyquoted the Joint Chiefs of Staff as saying.

Multiple sources reported that Japan’s prime minister called an emergency meeting of cabinet ministers after the launch.
