President Trump has “no intention” of releasing his tax returns and has released more financial disclosure information than “anybody else,” even though he has never released those returns, Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin said Wednesday.

“The president has no intention,” Mnuchin said when asked if Trump would release his returns during a briefing on Trump’s tax reform proposal. “The president has released plenty of information and has given more financial disclosure than anybody else.”

“I think the American population has plenty of information,” he added, without citing the administration’s usual claim that his returns cannot be released because they are being audited.

As a candidate, Trump became the first presidential nominee in modern history not to release his tax returns before the election. In his short time in office, Trump has held to that position, and White House press secretary Sean Spicer said he is still under audit.

Being under audit does not preclude an individual from releasing their tax returns voluntarily, according to the IRS.
