Multiple sources close to Ted Cruz say the Texas senator is expected indicate his support for Donald Trump as soon as Friday.
It is unclear whether Cruz will say only that he is voting for the Republican nominee, as other lawmakers have done, or offer a more full-throated endorsement, but the idea of throwing any support to Trump is controversial within Cruzworld.
“If he announces he endorses, it destroys his political brand,” said someone who had worked for Cruz’s campaign.
Steve Deace, a prominent conservative Iowa radio host who was a major Cruz backer, also tweeted Friday that the senator would endorse Trump. A spokeswoman for Cruz did not respond to multiple requests for comment.

I’d say if he does it is an enormous miscalculation on @tedcruz’s part and he would lose my support. https://t.co/OPBa84qZSn

Hey @tedcruz. You know I love ya. But if you endorse Trump now? It’s hard to see that as anything other than a career move.
— Ben Howe (@BenHowe) September 23, 2016
Honest question: Does Cruz endorsing Trump make one small ounce of difference at this point?

1) Politically I believe it's a disastrous decision for reasons that are too numerous to mention on Twitter. So I will in upcoming @CR piece
— Steve Deace (@SteveDeaceShow) September 23, 2016
2) Personally, I'm disappointed. Disappointed that a lot of people are going to be disappointed.
— Steve Deace (@SteveDeaceShow) September 23, 2016
3) That being said, while I vehemently disagree morally and politically, I will view this in the context of Ted's full record.
— Steve Deace (@SteveDeaceShow) September 23, 2016
4) Ted is still one of the best senators we have. And I hope he's happy there, because odds he'll be president severely diminished.
— Steve Deace (@SteveDeaceShow) September 23, 2016
5) I'll still root for Ted though I disagree. He didn't completely abandon me when I did something dumb last fall. I'll return the grace.
— Steve Deace (@SteveDeaceShow) September 23, 2016
6) But again, I think it's the worst political miscalculation of my lifetime. I hope I am wrong. The people will decide that.
— Steve Deace (@SteveDeaceShow) September 23, 2016
7) I'm just sorry to see so many people letdown again. That's the toughest part of this for me. I grow weary of seeing people disappointed.
— Steve Deace (@SteveDeaceShow) September 23, 2016
8) I'm used to being letdown. It's a state of being in this line of work. But the people deserve better. I wish I could give it to them.

I’ll be done with him. If he really felt the need to defeat Hillary with his vote he could keep his action in the voting booth private as well as his intent. To announce it would be for other reasons. Either to campaign for Trump hoping to convince others or to buckle to blackmail and threats from the GOP. I could find neither a sign of a strong moral character.
Palin through us under the bus I suppose Cruz will be next. I will be done with politics let the chips fall where they may as I am convinced there are no men of honor left in politics.
I was hoping Cruz would be a leader of a strong new Conservative Party. Guess not. If he still wants to play with the GOP dogs on the porch so be it.
Not sure what good it does Cruz to endorse, but considering the unmitigated hell he has gotten these past few months from activists & donors

@tedcruz An endorsement for Trump from you won't help Trump. It will only destroy hope for the future.
— NeverTrumpin (@RichardJSunkle) September 23, 2016
The people most excited about the Cruz endorsement are his 2020 rivals.
— Erick Erickson (@EWErickson) September 23, 2016
I think @tedcruz endorsing Trump at this point plays to the caricature that he is self-interested, not really principled. Hate it for him.
— Erick Erickson (@EWErickson) September 23, 2016
Ted Cruz was with Trump when he could've beaten him & against him when he couldn't. Then he non-endorsed with max damage, & caved for 0 gain

— Ron Nehring (@RonNehring) September 23, 2016
He just endorsed Trump. Full text on his Facebook page, but alas, I can’t link it.
Political suicide. But as I said before, makes no difference to me. I still won’t vote for Trump.
I'm guessing more #NeverTrump will dig in their heels deeper than be moved by Cruz's move. In fact, I expect it.
— Steve Deace (@SteveDeaceShow) September 23, 2016
The #NeverTrump Cruz people will loathe Trump all the more. Become more convinced he is a corrupt influence.
— Steve Deace (@SteveDeaceShow) September 23, 2016
If @tedcruz endorses simply because @Reince threatened his senate reelection, the message is "the establishment wins."
— Ben Howe (@BenHowe) September 23, 2016
Cruz has called Trump a liar, a conman, and a sniveling coward. What happened in the last couple weeks to make him suddenly change his mind?
— Matt Walsh (@MattWalshBlog) September 23, 2016
I'm not disavowing Cruz. As @SteveDeaceShow says, he's still one of our very best.
But let's not pretend this isn't a very serious blow.
— Josh Hammer (@josh_hammer) September 23, 2016
Sen. Mike Lee's spox tells me the Cruz news is a "total surprise." i.e., if he's doing it, he didn't give a heads up
— daveweigel (@daveweigel) September 23, 2016
I wish Cruz good luck raising money for his next presidential campaign . He has seen his last dime from me.
