Look who’s talking: Virginia Thomas, the wife of Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas, is set to appear Thursday before the Jan. 6 select committee, according to two sources familiar with the situation.
She’s one of the panel’s major outstanding witnesses in the final phase of its investigation.
Why they want to hear from her: Thomas, also known as Ginni, had been a target of the select panel’s investigation for months. She finally reached an agreement with lawmakers last week for her testimony.
Lawmakers took interest in her connections to John Eastman, a legal architect of former President Donald Trump’s last-ditch plan to subvert the 2020 election. She’d invited Eastman to speak to an activist group in the aftermath of the election, though Eastman has denied ever discussing Supreme Court-related matters with Thomas. CBS and the Washington Post had also published text messages from her to top Trump allies urging them to investigate debunked claims of election fraud and to fight harder to overturn the election results.
