Democrats at the House Intelligence Committee are seeking to hire money-laundering and forensic accounting experts to investigate President Trump’s financial dealings, according to a new report.
The potential hires would delve into unanswered financial questions pertaining to Trump and Russia, the Daily Beast reported Wednesday.
Rep. Adam Schiff, D-Calif., is likely to take over as committee chairman in the next Congress and has expressed interest in Trump’s relationship with Deutsche Bank, which last year agreed to pay hundreds of millions to settle allegations that it helped Russians engage in money-laundering.
Deutsche Bank loaned Trump cash in the 1990s when other financial lenders were unwilling to, and the president may still owe the financial institution up to $175 million, according to MarketWatch.
