Is Ted Cruz afraid of losing his senate seat?

No, but Cruz is fund raising off of that possibility just in case a real race breaks out in 2018

Sen Ted Cruz, R-Texas has been in the wilderness as far as the Republican Party establishment is concerned thanks to his pointed non-endorsement of #Donald Trump at the Republican National Convention.  Cruz has stated, among other things, that he is not in the habit of endorsing someone who attacked his wife and slandered his father. No doubt Trump’s volatile nature where it comes to his personality and his politics entered into the decision as well. Now, according to some press reports, some Texas Democrats are wondering if they can knock Cruz out of the Senate in 2018 when he is up for reelection.

The Castro brothers, Mayor of San Antonio Joaquin and Secretary of HUD Julian, are toying with the idea of one of them ascending to the Senate. Wendy Davis, the former Texas state senator whose pro-abortion filibuster followed by an abortive run for governor, is also considering taking on Cruz.

Cruz, being a smart politician, is fundraising off of the threats. This has some in the media wondering if he is afraid for his Senate seat. Being booted from the Senate would put a damper on Cruz’s ambition to run for president again in 2020.

Those who might be afraid (or hope) that Cruz’s spectacular political career is due to come to an end in 2018 will likely have to rest easy. Texas is still a deep red state, and Cruz is wildly popular among the Lone Star State’s electorate. Cruz is simply not passing up any opportunity to ask for money. Some big-name donors have distanced themselves from the Texas senator, so the shortfall will have to be made up somewhere.
