The Russian lawyer who met with Donald Trump Jr. and Jared Kushner at Trump Tower during the 2016 presidential race reportedly thinks she briefly spoke with Ivanka Trump after attending the meeting.
NBC News said Natalia Veselnitskaya told the news outlet that she spoke with a woman whom she thought was Trump as she was leaving Trump Tower.
Veselnitskaya was not completely sure of the identity of the woman, NBC News noted, but another source confirmed that the woman Veselnitskaya spoke to was the president’s elder daughter.
The report comes as special counsel Robert Mueller continues the Justice Department investigation into Russia’s election meddling, including any potential ties between Trump campaign staff members and Moscow.
Sources told NBC that the special counsel’s investigators are largely interested in why Trump helped draft a misleading statement regarding the meeting one year later. The investigators, according to the news outlet’s sources, are not as concerned with the meeting itself.
