Barack Obama, Apple and Bill Gates are some of those targeted in the Twitter attack.
Joe Biden’s Twitter account appeared to have been hacked on Wednesday as part of a mass attack on prominent Twitter accounts asking for Bitcoin.
The tweet claimed to be doubling Bitcoin contributions to a mysterious address and mirrored similar tweets posted on the accounts of former fellow Democratic presidential candidate Mike Bloomberg. Former President Barack Obama, Apple, Bill Gates, Kanye West and other prominent groups and individuals were also targeted.
In a number of cases, the tweets were pinned to the targeted accounts. The Biden campaign told POLITICO that Twitter locked the account immediately after the breach and deleted the offending tweet. The campaign said it was staying in touch with Twitter on the attack.
