The party is also looking at scaling back the convention to avoid appearing like it’s throwing a big party as the country is hurting.

The Democratic National Committee is postponing the party’s presidential convention in Milwaukee to August 17, the week before the Republican Party’s convention.

The delay from July 13 came after likely nominee Joe Biden publicly called for the convention to be rescheduled in response to the coronavirus pandemic.

The delay from July 13 follows weeks of behind-the-scenes discussions with party leaders and the two remaining presidential candidates’ campaigns of Bernie Sanders and Joe Biden. The DNC had been resisting calls from Democratic officials to change the date, but was forced to shift gears after likely nominee Joe Biden this week called for a delay.
