Donald J. Trump: Our next campaigner in chief

….

The president-elect is scheduled to hold a rally in Cincinnati tomorrow that’s being billed as the beginning of a “Thank you” tour to Midwest voters, who launched him into the White House. Others are calling it a “victory lap.” Rather, it’s just a continuation of “the sell.”

Trump is still selling America on the idea of his success and popularity, without truly possessing either. He’s shaping up to be what many Republican critics have labeled Obama, although on a much grander scale: campaigner in chief.

Trump’s rally is designed to project images of achievement before he’s even inaugurated.

….

Celebrate now, find out what you are celebrating at these rallies later.

Think of it as a more festive, party-like version of what former Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi told America about Obamacare: “Pass the bill now to find out what’s in it later.” At least there will be music.

….

Trump officials are also, reportedly, holding meetings on Capitol Hill to prepare a trillion-dollar infrastructure bill, something that President Obama’s 2009 stimulus bill, worth nearly $1 trillion, passed in the early days of his presidency was supposed to fund.

President-elect Trump campaigned hard against President Obama’s policies, but there’s strong indications Trump’s open to replicating them.

If so, Trump genuinely is the ultimate salesman. He will have convinced Republican voters to rally in support much of what they rallied against during the Obama years.
