Republican Oklahoma candidate says ‘we should try Anthony Fauci and put him in front of a firing squad’
A GOP congressional candidate and the chairman of the Oklahoma Republican Party said “we should try Anthony Fauci and put him in front of a firing squad” during a campaign speech about the 2020 election, vaccine and mask mandates and “wokeness” in America.
Video of the remarks by John Bennett, who is running for the 2nd Congressional District in Oklahoma, was shared on Tuesday by the group Right Wing Watch.
“We’re in a war with bureaucrats who have forced vaccine mandates on us, mask mandates on us, and you know what — they are pushing this wokeness confusion down our throats,” Bennett says in the clip. “And by the way, we should try Anthony Fauci and put him in front of a firing squad.
Bennett then quipped the Secret Service was “listening,” before calling for Fauci to face a trial.
“I’m not advocating we kill Anthony Fauci until he’s convicted of his crimes through a court,” he added.
It was not immediately clear where the remarks were made or when. The Hill has reached out to Bennett’s campaign as well as Fauci’s office.

Bennett, a former state House representative, has led the Oklahoma Republican Party since 2021. He is expected to step down from the post to focus on his congressional campaign.

Is this like the line from an old western, “we’ll give him a fair trial before we hang him?”
Our system of justice requires first, that charges be filed; second, that the allegations must be proven in a court of law and third, a judge or a jury of the accused peers renders a guilty verdict. We don’t have a trial with a preordained outcome, then administer punishment.
But this is what Republicans and the Trump cult envision once they install almighty trump as dictator — round up all perceived enemies, stage a show trial, then execute the defendant. In some cases, they just won’t bother with a trial.
What they are doing now particularly with the voting process, is designed to eventually lead up to this dictatorship. First they have to keep their enemies from voting or discard their votes, then they will trash the Constitution, making it easy for the Mango Mussolini to do whatever the hell he wants.
We like to think we have safeguards in place to prevent this nightmare from happening. But we don’t. In an instant the Constitution can be discarded and every other protection outlawed. Not even our judicial system can be relied upon to preserve the republic.
So it will be up to us ordinary folks to preserve this country as we know it. Vote in every election — not just the major ones this year and in 2024. It may even come down to violent conflict. We can’t sit on our fannies and hope for the best — because we will end up with the worst.
