A former associate of Paul Manafort, Sam Patten, has been charged with failing to register as a foreign agent in the United States, Bloomberg reported Friday.
The charges are said to be related to Patten’s work lobbying on behalf of a political party in Ukraine. According to Bloomberg, Patten is accused of violating the Foreign Agents Registration Act, a U.S. law that governs foreign lobbying.
Patten is scheduled to appear in federal court in D.C. later Friday morning. The charges against him are laid out in a criminal information, which typically comes before a subject pleads guilty.
The news comes as Manafort, President Trump’s former campaign chairman, readies for a second federal trial in D.C. stemming from special counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation into Russian interference in the election.
