The group of Central American migrants trekking toward the U.S. southern border intends to stop and rest for at least a day in southern Mexico starting Wednesday while sorting out how to best traverse the remaining 900 miles of their journey, The Associated Press reported.

Thousands of migrants planned to stop in the city of Juchitan, the AP reported. While there, group leaders plan to negotiate with Mexican authorities in the hopes of establishing transportation to Mexico City.

The AP reported that Mexican officials had given no indication whether they would agree to help transport the roughly 4,000 people.

While most of the migrants stopped in Juchitan, a smaller group of about 1,000 Central Americans were stopped about 250 miles south in the city of Tapachula.
