Wall Street Journal columnist and former Reagan speechwriter Peggy Noonan said the implosion of the Democratic Party has gone unnoticed as President Trump struggles to gain footing through the early days of his administration.

In an op-ed published Thursday night, Noonan said Democrats have been thrust into the wilderness without a leader and lacking a path back to political relevance.

“Mr. Trump has struggled so colorfully the past three months, we’ve barely noticed his great good luck — that in that time the Democratic Party and the progressive left have been having a very public nervous breakdown,” she wrote. She noted recent public appearances by Democratic National Committee Chairman Tom Perez, who has been swearing when he talks about Republicans.

“I thought Mr. Trump was supposed to be the loudmouth vulgarian who swears in public,” Noonan continued. “They are aping what they profess to hate. They excoriated him for lowering the bar. Now look at them. And they’re doing it because they have nothing else — not a plan, not a program, not a philosophy that can be uttered.”
