Two Reuters journalists have been freed after more than 500 days in a Myanmar jail, according to the news service, citing witnesses.

Wa Lone and Kyaw Soe Oo were convicted in September 2018 of violating the nation’s Official Secrets Act and sentenced to seven years in jail. But President Win Myint has pardoned thousands of prisoners throughout the country in conjunction with the traditional New Year, which began April 17, according to Reuters.

The two journalists were arrested in December 2017 during an investigation into the killing of 10 Rohingya Muslim men and boys by government forces and civilians in the country’s Rakhine State. The killings occured during a government crackdown that displaced more than 730,000 members of the Muslim minority to Bangladesh, according to Reuters.
