Steve Deace: How to lose an election that looked winnable last week

This Machado thing is insane, and a perfect example of both Trump’s corrupting influence and the danger of living in your own echo chamber.

Allow me to explain.

It’s clear, given how quickly she was teed up by the media after Hillary mentioned her at the debate, this is clear coordination by the Left. It was over-the-top obvious. It’s a bigger contrivance than Sandra Fluke.

Yet Trump’s ego can’t allow him to walk away, so he plays into it and makes a 1-day story a 1-week story. That’s bad enough, but we’ve come to expect nothing less from Trump. He’s a man of literally no restraint or prudence.

But when supposedly smart guys like Newt Gingrich start saying things like “Miss Universe contestants aren’t supposed to put on 60 pounds” you’re dumb to the point of political malfeasance. For when you have two overweight white guys in their 70s with six wives between them fat shaming women, you’ve pretty much played into every liberal stereotype of conservatives ever.

Dumb and dumber.

I have two daughters. One a teen, and another a tween. I watch them struggle with body image issues simply because of society’s expectation and nothing we project in the home. I see it on the other end as well with my son. As I try to steer him away from what’s basically a stripper mural in front of the Victoria’s Secret store at the mall, lest that influence his own expectations of women later. Throw in the porn culture my generation is marinated in, and like many of you I’m pretty self-aware on this topic.

Trump and Gingrich have daughters, too. How are they not?

You can’t fix stupid.

This is a wedge issue election, because every election is a wedge issue election. Yet again, though, we’ll have an election where the wedge issues are the ones the Left imposes on us.

I’ve been all over the conservative movement, and I’ve NEVER heard women spoken about the way Trump and Newt did here. And in the context of a freaking presidential election, no less. This must not really be “the most important election in the history of most important elections” after all, if we’ve got time to talk about the metabolic rate of beauty pageant contestants.

Well played, guys. Why don’t you change your logo from an elephant to a banana in the tailpipe?

Then there’s social media tough guys who have brought the word “cuck” into the mainstream. They think the answer is for Trump to bring up rape enabling and the like. THAT’S EXACTLY WHAT HILLARY WANTS, MORONS!

She’s got “stand by your man” teed up as to why she didn’t leave her spouse the way Trump left his, just waiting to tug at our heart strings and play the loyal wife and mom for the suburban vote. And if Trump plays the rape card, the media blackout on that underage rape lawsuit Trump is facing in his home state will be lifted faster than you can say “Machado.”

Listen, if you think Trump is losing because he’s not done enough name calling or been enough of a knuckle-dragger, I can’t help you. Go back to watching Fox News.
